Zurich appoints new Chief Underwriting Officer for Global Corporate in North America

Zurich, a leading property and casualty insurance provider globally and in North America, has announced changes to the senior leadership team at Zurich’s Global Corporate in North America (GCiNA).

Don Pickens will be the new Chief Underwriting Officer for GCiNA. That position was previously held by Patrick Daley, who will assume a new role as Head of Property for the East Region within GCiNA.

Richard Montminy will be the new Head of Property for GCiNA. Joe Tinetti, who was in that role since 2011, will become Head of Marine and Energy Property and report to Jeanne Jankowski, head of Energy for GCiNA.

“I am very excited to welcome Don and Richard to my senior leadership team. I am certain that the changes we’ve announced today will help to position GCiNA to grow and to achieve our goals in 2016 and beyond,” said Paul Horgan, chief executive officer of Zurich Global Corporate in North America.

John Willemsen - Bill Hopkins

Arch Reinsurance Company announced yesterday that John Willemsen and Bill Hopkins have joined their underwriting team in Morristown, New Jersey as Managing Directors. Mr. Willemsen joins Arch Re with over 30 years of experience, most recently as head of the development of the Programs business at Munich Re. He will help develop and expand Arch Re’s Programs business. Mr. Hopkins will help to strengthen the Professional Lines unit. Prior to joining Arch Re, Mr. Hopkins was head of the Financial Lines portfolio at AIG Cat Excess.

Anne Marie Elder has been promoted by XL Catlin to CUO for marine in the Americas.

Rob Cook has been appointed London market marine director

Rob Halsey

Have announced the appointment of Rob Halsey as Vice President, Atlanta Property Manager. In this new position, Rob will be responsible for building and maintaining the Validus Underwriters Excess & Surplus property business in the Southeast United States and write on behalf of Western World.

XL Catlin has announced that it has made a series of promotions in its Energy team. Stephen Hawkins has been promoted to Global Product Head for Upstream Energy and Luis Prato takes on the role of Regional Product Leader for the UK and Ireland, completing XL Catlin’s UK & Ireland team of Business Leaders. Additionally Peter Welton has been promoted to Senior Underwriter for Downstream Energy & Power and Laura Mobbs takes up the position of Upstream Class Underwriter.

Matthias Meyenhofer

Has appointed of Matthias Meyenhofer as managing director to lead the firm’s Global Partners client segment for EMEA.

He will be responsible for improving and expanding the range of services provided to large clients across the region. Based in Zurich, he will report to Eric Paire, head of Strategic Advisory and Global Partners. The appointment is effective immediately.

Michael McGeown

Barbican Insurance Group has announced the appointment of Michael McGeown as a marine liability underwriter, with immediate effect. He will report to Paul Brown, business group leader, marine insurance.

Mr. McGeown joins Barbican from Osprey Underwriting Agency, where he has worked for the last nine years, most recently as a marine underwriter. His 16-year insurance career has spanned both broking and underwriting, as well as the insurance and reinsurance sectors. He was previously a reinsurance broker at Cameron Richard Smith Insurance Services, before joining the ReSpecialty Marine & Energy department at Aon in 2003. During his career, he has also worked a deputy underwriter at Charles Taylor Consulting for the Standard Bermuda P&I Club.
