XL Catlin has announced that it has made a series of promotions in its Energy team. Stephen Hawkins has been promoted to Global Product Head for Upstream Energy and Luis Prato takes on the role of Regional Product Leader for the UK and Ireland, completing XL Catlin’s UK & Ireland team of Business Leaders. Additionally Peter Welton has been promoted to Senior Underwriter for Downstream Energy & Power and Laura Mobbs takes up the position of Upstream Class Underwriter.

Roger Madden

Have announced the appointment of Roger Madden as a Senior Vice President. In this capacity, Roger will provide technical and broking expertise as an integral member of our industry specialty practices.

Matthias Meyenhofer

Has appointed of Matthias Meyenhofer as managing director to lead the firm’s Global Partners client segment for EMEA.

He will be responsible for improving and expanding the range of services provided to large clients across the region. Based in Zurich, he will report to Eric Paire, head of Strategic Advisory and Global Partners. The appointment is effective immediately.

Barbican Insurance Group
Michael McGeown

Barbican Insurance Group has announced the appointment of Michael McGeown as a marine liability underwriter, with immediate effect. He will report to Paul Brown, business group leader, marine insurance.

Mr. McGeown joins Barbican from Osprey Underwriting Agency, where he has worked for the last nine years, most recently as a marine underwriter. His 16-year insurance career has spanned both broking and underwriting, as well as the insurance and reinsurance sectors. He was previously a reinsurance broker at Cameron Richard Smith Insurance Services, before joining the ReSpecialty Marine & Energy department at Aon in 2003. During his career, he has also worked a deputy underwriter at Charles Taylor Consulting for the Standard Bermuda P&I Club.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr. Brown said: "At Barbican, we are fortunate to have a very experienced marine team writing across a diverse book which spans hull, cargo and liability. Michael is a fantastic addition to our ranks given that he is a highly respected underwriter in the marine liability sector and also given the diversity of expertise he brings which bridges both underwriting and broking.”

Ivan Breen

Canopius Group, the global specialty insurance and reinsurance platform for Sompo Japan Nipponkoa Holdings, have announced the  expansion of its US direct property team with the appointment of Ivan Breen as senior vice president.

Jeremy Shallow

ArgoGlobal have announced the appointment of Jeremy Shallow as Credit and Political Risks Class Underwriter. He takes up his position with immediate effect, reporting to John Moffatt, Head of Specialty.

Jeremy joins us from Aspen Insurance where he served, most recently, as Deputy Head of its Credit and Political Risks Division. In this role, he played an integral part in the significant growth and diversification of this established book. Jeremy began his career with WestLB AG (now Portigon Financial Services) in 2005, as a graduate trainee, culminating with his appointment as a Director in Insurance Solutions, where he was responsible for sourcing and purchasing credit and political risk insurance for the bank’s global loan portfolio.

Jessica Huhn-Kenzik - Jessica Heflin

Pioneer Underwriters has announced its new Environmental Liability unit with the appointment of Jessica Huhn-Kenzik as Vice President to lead the new team. She is joined by Jessica Heflin as Assistant Vice President. Both appointments are effective immediately. The Environmental Liability team will report directly to Gary Dubois, President of Pioneer’s US underwriting platform, Pioneer Special Risk (PSR).

Joseph Davide

QBE North America have announced that Joseph Davide has joined the organization as Senior Vice President, Risk Management, QBE's large risk business in North America. This business is part of QBE's Standard Lines - Property & Casualty division, which comprises its Commercial, Personal, Program and Agricultural businesses. In this role, Mr. Davide will develop and drive underwriting and business strategies for large and complex property, primary casualty, and excess casualty risks, by working with QBE leaders to build national and regional distribution engagement strategies. 

Liberty Specialty Markets
Detlef Offenhau-Rainer Rieger-Sebastian Schare

Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM), part of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, has strengthened its presence in the German casualty market with the appointment of a new four-strong casualty team in its Cologne office.

The team will write a book of primary and excess casualty business and report to Northern European Regional Manager and Cologne Branch Manager – Insurance, Wolfgang Weis.

Leading the team is Detlef Offenhau who has over 20 years’ experience working in the German casualty market and has a successful track record in developing casualty and long-tail business in Germany.

Detlef will be joined by Senior Underwriter, Rainer Rieger and Underwriter, Sebastian Schare. Both have considerable experience in the German market. The fourth member, an Underwriting Assistant, will join in February.
